The cracked ice pattern is seen widely in Chinese art and design. Here, individual geometric tiles of curly maple veneer are pieced together to form this lively pattern. The surface is sanded smooth and colored with a custom cranberry dye. Shallow lines are carved through the dyed surface where the pieces intersect to create bright white lines.
